Camping tripThis year i went on the Transition Year camping trip to Lough Dan in Co.Wicklow from the 13th to the 16th of September. I think the camping trip was a good way to get through the results and thankfully i was happy with mine. The trip was a great experience as i learned what its like to be responsible for myself through cooking and cleaning up after myself. I really enjoyed the activities we did such as the hike, swimming and building a campfire together. These activities gave us the opportunity to get to know the international students better and also each other. I think the camping trip broadened our communication and cooperation skills between each other and it made us more connected as a group. The camping trip was an important trip for the year as it prevented any separation in the group based on the results and instead it allowed us to enjoy each others company and become closer as a year. I really enjoyed the TY camping trip and i’m thankful for all the teachers who volunteered to bring us otherwise we wouldn't of had a trip at all.
Chuamar ag campáil ar lá de thorthaí na scrúdaithe. D'éirigh go h-an mhaith leis an mbliain sa teastas sóisearach agus bhí aoibh mhaith ar ghach duine. Phacálamar ár málaí le eadaí tedáiagus bia deas agus ar aghaidh linn go dtí an ionadcampála i sléibhte Cill Mhantáin ( gleann madúra ). Bhí sé dúshlánach an poball a chuí suas ach d'éirigh linn ag an deiceadh. Chuamar ar suíloid fada ar an gcéad lá nuair a d'fhilleamar ar ais, rinneamar marshmallows thar an tine campála. Ar an dara lá. Chuamar ag sléibhtepireacht agus ag snámh. Bhí BBQ againn agus bhíomar ag canadh agus ag roinnt scéalta timpeall an tire campála. Ní raibh mémé ag campáil cheanna agus thaitín sé go mór liom. Ba thaithí fíuntach é.

KAIROS TRIP
On 26th of October Myself and my form group travelled to Maynooth to complete the Kairos program. This program was set to give us an idea of what it’s like to broadcast TV show or be a part of one. It was up to us as a form group to plan the TV show ourselves and assign roles for each other in the making of the show. The form group was split in half where 1/2 were actors and the other half works behind the scenes and produced the show. The show had to be a minimum of 10 minutes long so it was up to us to plan how long we expected everything to be. The planning was quite challenging as we had a lot to do in a very short amount of time but we managed to complete the program in the end. Our TV show was based on a show that already exists called family fortunes. We had two families with three people each compete in a quiz hosted by two hosts. I had the job of working with one of the three cameras recording the show and it was my job to listen to the director on where to place the camera. I quite enjoyed this role as I got to work with the actors and the director and the supervisor taught us everything we needed to know.
Overall I think the Kairos program was a really good experience and it was a really fun way to spend the day with with my form

DCU OPEN DAY
This year I went to the DCU open day on 17 November. I went with my year and we had a choice to go to about four different lectures in the day. I was surprised with the size of DCU and it was quite a modern campus. The four lectures I went to were psychology, journalism, pharmaceutical and chemical sciences and global business or which I found really enjoyable and interesting. I think one of my favourite lectures was psychology as I’m interested in how human brain works and it seems like quite an interesting course. We were taught about the requirements to get into the courses and it was clear that some courses are a lot harder to get into then others. Overall I really enjoyed the experience and it made the day really interesting and fun and I look forward to the next University open day.
DIT OPEN DAY
On the 24th of November I went to the DIT open day. We travelled by bus to the campus on Aungier street and we arrived at 10am giving us enough time to go to 3 lectures. I went to business and engineering lectures and I found them really interesting and the lecturers told us everything about the coarse and about the life in DIT also. The campus was nice and modern and it is located in the centre of town near Grafton street.
Overall I liked the university and I thought the location was really good and I enjoyed all the lectures and I think the lectures gave me a good insight into the type of coarse I’d like to do in the future such as business and law or some type of engineering.
Ski trip
This year from the 17th to the 24th of February I went on a family ski trip in Val Thorens which is located in the French alps. The trip was really enjoyable and the atmosphere in the resort was truly electric. I went on the trip with my siblings which also brought along their partners and I was lucky enough to witness my sisters engagement also which made the trip very special. I am disappointed that I missed the trip to Carlingford with my year but I also had a really enjoyable holiday. We were very lucky to have no cloudy days and my sisters engagement was a very pleasant surprise and it was really nice to be apart of it.
3 Peaks challenge
On Friday the 4th of May, i took part in a 17km hike with my year as a fundraiser for St. Catherine's school in Newcastle. We each had to raise €100 from sponsorships that we got from our neighbours and family to complete this hike. The weather on the day was very pleasant and everybody came well prepared with water and hiking boots. We first climbed the large sugar loaf and then we walked down to the garage on the N11 in Kilmacanogue and got some snacks, we then climbed up the little sugar loaf and had our lunch at the peak. After lunch we walked down towards Kilruddery house and gardens and then to bray head. We then descended down bray head and we all walked down the promenade and got ice cream. Overall the day was really good and it was a nice thing to do as a year. The money we have raised will help fund the new playground for St. Catherine's which we plan to go and help build on the 14th of May for difference day.
